Unleash Your Inner Ted Lasso

Aug 29, 2023

I’ve had so many people say to me “You have to watch Ted Lasso, you’d love it!” and finally I have, and I do.  Oh my god, it’s one of the best shows I’ve ever watched, and my partner Chayne and I watched all 3 seasons in record time.  There are so many gems in that show and I kept thinking about my role as a coach and working with females in corporate and business and how similar it is to Ted coaching his football team.

In the competitive landscape of the corporate world, it's not uncommon for women to sometimes doubt their capabilities and hesitate to fully embrace their potential. But guess what? You absolutely have within you the power to step into confidence and achieve your goals both personally and professionally. And who better to draw inspiration from than the charming and wise Ted Lasso? The hit show offers a treasure trove of wisdom that can guide you on your journey to empowerment. So, let's lace up our mental sneakers and dive into the playbook of confidence-building Ted Lasso style!

  1. Embrace Your Uniqueness: "You’re like a positive magnet that just refuses to get turned around, even when you really want to." - Coach Beard

Just like Ted's unwavering positivity, remember that your uniqueness is your strength. Embrace your individuality and the qualities that set you apart. Confidence blossoms when you own your authentic self and bring your distinct perspective and your strengths to the table.

  1. Learn from Failures: "You know what the happiest animal on Earth is? It’s a goldfish. You know why? Got a 10-second memory. Be a goldfish, Sam." - Ted Lasso

Failure is not the end; it’s a stepping stone. Just like Ted's lighthearted analogy about goldfish, develop the ability to bounce back quickly from setbacks. Use failures as opportunities to learn, grow, and adapt. Your resilience will propel you forward.

  1. Embody Self-Belief: "I believe in hope. I believe in belief." - Ted Lasso

Confidence thrives when you believe in yourself. Ted's unshakeable belief in the power of hope is a testament to his confidence. Remind yourself of your accomplishments, talents, and the journey that led you here. Your strory, history and experience are already evidence of success so that when you get into the space of self-doubt, refer to that body of evidence to cultivate a mindset of self-belief.

  1. Embrace Vulnerability  "Hey, let me tell you something. There's no weakness in kindness and compassion." - Ted Lasso

Vulnerability is not a weakness; it's a mark of courage. Just like Ted's quote around compassion recognize that it's okay to let go of perfectionism and self-doubt. Share your experiences, ask for help when needed, and foster genuine connections. Vulnerability fosters trust, which in turn boosts confidence.

  1. Practice Empathy:  "You know, sometimes the best way to support someone is just by being by their side." - Ted Lasso

Ted's wisdom also teaches us about empathy. Listening, understanding, and supporting others not only enriches your interactions but also boosts your self-esteem. Being kind and compassionate towards others reminds you of your inherent value.

  1. Set Clear Boundaries: "Taking on a challenge is a lot like riding a horse. If you're comfortable while you're doing it, you're probably doing it wrong." - Ted Lasso

Pushing beyond your comfort zone is essential for growth, but it's equally important to set healthy boundaries. Just like Ted's analogy of horse riding, remember that challenges might feel uncomfortable, but that's where growth happens or where the magic happens. Learn to say no when necessary and prioritise your well-being.

In the grand game of corporate success, confidence is your secret weapon. Channel your inner Ted Lasso by embracing your uniqueness, learning from failures, embodying self-belief, embracing vulnerability, practicing empathy, and setting clear boundaries. Remember, it's not about being perfect or someone you're not; it's about being authentically you and striving to be the best version of yourself.

So, lace up those mental sneakers, rally your self-belief, and tackle your goals with the unwavering confidence of Ted Lasso himself. You've got this!
